2/3 Norgrovesend Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Early C17 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Sandstone
rubble to first floor level, timber-framed with brick infill above; plain
tiled roofs. Hall and cross-wing plan; hall of two framed bays on an east/
west axis, the upper bay being occupied by a large fireplace with a brick
ridge stack and forming a lobby-entry plan; cross-wing at east gable end is
of two framed bays. Two storeys and attic. Framing: two rows of square
panels to wall-plate; cross-wing has collar and tie-beam trusses with two
collars, five struts to lower collar and two to upper collar. South front
elevation: hall part has a 2-light casement and a large C20 single-light
window on the ground floor and a 2-light casement on the first floor; C20
lean-to porch adjacent to cross-wing has a 2-light casement and 4-panelled
door; cross-wing gable end has a 2-light ground and first floor casement
with plank weatherings and an attic light. Interior: main beams stop-
chamfered; large back-to-back fireplaces. The house was originally of
cruciform plan with a wing adjoining the east elevation of the cross-wing;
this was demolished in the mid-C20.
