5/75 House about one mile
north-west of Newhouse
House divided into two dwellings. Early C17, mid-C19 alterations and
additions. Timber-framed, painted brick and rendered infill, brick re-
placement walling, corrugated iron roof. Three framed bays aligned
north-west/south-east; large external rubble chimney with offsets and
circular bread oven at south-east gable end; also central chimney bay
with brick stack to south-west of ridge. Single storey and attic with
dormers. Framing: three panels from sill to wall-plate, long straight
brace to lower left corner at rear, collar and tie-beam trusses with two
struts. South-west front elevation: rebuilt in brick; all ground floor
openings have cambered heads; two 3-light casements, one 2-light casement,
two gabled dormers with 2-light casements and two ledged and battened
doors. Attic lights in gable ends. Interior: roof structure intact,
central and end fireplaces with C19 ranges; winder staircase in south-
east bay. Lean-to addition at north-west end.
