4/79 Lower Aston House

Shown on OS map as Lower Aston Cottages.
Farmhouse, divided into cottages, now house. Late C17, restored late C20.
Handmade brick, plain tiled roof with parapets at gable ends of main range.
L-plan; main part of four bays aligned east/west including large chimney bay
with brick stack; single-bay wing to rear east end. Two storeys and attic
with dentilled eaves cornice. Windows are all C20 casements, mainly with
cambered heads. South front elevation: ground floor has two 2-light windows,
a 3-light window and glazed double doors inserted in opening to left; first
floor has three 2-light windows and a 3-light window. Interior: timber cross-
frame with large lower corner brace situated between two westernmost bays;
large back-to-back fireplaces; dog-leg staircase with turned balusters in
north wing. A range of converted outbuildings adjoin to the west in which
there is the main entrance; these are not included. There is also a C19
single-bay single-storey and attic extension to the east which has a 3-light
casement and two skylights in its south front elevation.
