GV II


Farmhouse. Mid-C18, altered and extended c1830. Brick, two-span roof,
slate and shallow-pitched with broad eaves to front, plain tiled with
gable end parapets at rear; both roofs have end stacks. Rectangular plan;
rear C18 range having been extended by front C19 range. Two storeys, attic
and cellar. Three bays; windows have gauged flat heads; outer bays have
15-pane sashes on ground floor and 16-pane sashes on first floor; central
bay has large semi-circular arched recess; on the first floor, glazed double
doors with a traceried fanlight lead onto a balcony on a moulded bressummer
with simple balustrade; the entrance beneath is flanked by engaged Doric
columns and has panelled double doors and a traceried fanlight. Attic
lights in gable ends. Interior: central hall has a large spiral geometrical
staircase with wreathed moulded handrail; front ground floor rooms have
elaborately moulded ceiling cornices; the one in the left room is enriched
with a frieze of hops and wheat sheaves and the one in the right room is
enriched with a frieze of vine leaves.
