5/120 Upper Woodston
Farmhouse, now house. Early C17, refronted mid-C18 with mid-C19 and mid-
C20 alterations. Timber-framed with brick infill on sandstone rubble base,
brick refacing and additions, plain tiled roofs. L-plan; main part of three
framed bays aligned east/west; large external rubble chimney with two star-
shaped brick shafts to rear of west bay; also large external chimney to rear
east bay enclosed by two-bay rear wing. Two storeys, attic and cellar;
dentilled eaves cornice. Framing: exposed at west gable end and rear; seven
rows of panels from sill to wall-plate at gable end, five rows df panels at
rear; long straight braces at lower corners of both storeys. Roof structure
appears to have been altered, probably when building was refronted; west end
collar and tie-beam truss has two long struts to collar and subsidiary strut
to lower rail at each side. South front elevation: three bays; all windows
have gauged flat heads and stone sills; outer bays have 15-pane sashes;
central first floor window is a 10-pane sash; central entrance has a moulded
flat canopy, a moulded architrave, and half-glazed door with panelled reveals.
Attic lights in gable ends. Interior not inspected. Main entrance in west
side elevation of rear wing.
