GV II


House. Mid-C18 with mid-C19 alterations and additions. Brick with
plain tiled roof, part hipped with parapet at south gable end and large
end stacks. L-plan; two storeys, attic with dormers and cellar; chamfered
plinth, three course band between main storeys and dentilled eaves cornice.
Main south elevation: 4:1 bays; windows have cambered heads; four-bay part
has two ground and first floor windows with moulded architraves and 12-pane
sashes in two bays to left; third bay has similar window on ground floor
with jambs lengthened to incorporate small door beneath window; fourth
bay has ground and first floor 3-light casement, from fifth bay projects
south wing of two bays; 3-light cellar window in gable end; ground and
first floor 3-light casement and 6-panelled door with cambered head in
angle with main part. Interior not inspected. Two flat-roofed dormer
windows to rear main part. Also two single-storey C19 wings to rear left;
main entrance in east-side of inner wing has round-headed archway with
ashlar keyblock and imposts; this leads into small lobby with 3-panelled
door on left side. The house belonged to the Winnington Estate and the
garden served as the kitchen garden to Stanford Court (qv).
