SO 47 SW ADFORTON CP PAYTOE

6/23 Cow house and hayloft
about 20 yards north
of Paytoe Hall

Cow house and hayloft. Probably C17 with C19 alterations. Sandstone rubble
base supporting weatherboarded timber-frame. Welsh slate roof. Five bays
aligned north-west/south-east. Two levels. South-west elevation has weather-
boarded upper part. Ground floor has six ledged doors and two 2-light openings
to right-hand side. North gable has central loft opening and two-leaved ledged
doors beneath. Interior has several trusses with collars supported by queen
struts and one truss with scissor-braces from the lower arms of which are a
pair of struts to principals. Each of these struts is parallel with the upper
part of the scissor-brace. RCHM notes ashlar, probably from Wigmore Abbey.
