5/43 Top Meadow House
House. Probably late C17 with later alterations. Timber-frame with plaster
infill partly underbuilt in brick. Sandstone rubble gable. Tiled roof and
brick end stack. L-plan with arms extending roughly south and west. Two
storeys and attic. West elevation has 1:1 windows. Gable front to left has
one 3-light late C20 casement to each floor with contemporary triangular
light in apex panel. Right part has four juxtaposed late C20 windows to
first floor. Beneath are two casements one of two, the other of three lights
set in C20 brickwork. Entry has late C20 ledged door in right return of cross-
wing. Frame of gable front is four square panels high from cill to tie, above
which are scissor-braces. South gable is sandstone rubble. Interior noted as
having heavy ceiling beams. Principal room to south has heavy chamfered oak
lintel to fireplace. (RCHM, Vol III, p 27).
