Description

BODENHAM CP BODENHAM
SO 55 SW
5/16 Bodenham Court Farmhouse
GV II
Farmhouse. C17 origins, refronted and re-roofed early C19 with further
alterations of circa 1900. Coursed dressed sandstone rubble with ashlar
dressings, hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves and brick stacks to
right side and rear. Two storeys and attic with dormer. Three bays.
Ground floor windows in outer bays and all first floor windows have cambered
ashlar heads and are 3-light circa 1900 casements with transoms (except for
window on ground floor of right bay which retains its 3-light C19 casement).
Central entrance has a six-panelled door (four flush panels and two upper
glazed panels) and is flanked by rectangular lights. There is a gabled.
dormer window with a 2-light casement on the right side. Later wings at
rear. Interior: is recorded to retain a C17 roof truss and some C17 ceiling
beams. The central hall has a dogleg staircase with turned balusters and
square newels.- probably early C19. This is believed to have been the home
farmhouse to Devereux Court (qv). It is now part of the Hampton Court (qv)
estate. (Brian, Dr A: The Houses of the Township of Bodenham Devereux and
their inhabitants in the C19 and earlier, unpublished notes).
