II
Two houses, now one house. Probably early C17, extended mid-C18 with further
mid-C19 alterations; restored late C20. Part timber-framed with rendered
infill, part sandstone rubble with plain tiled roof. Originally of two framed
bays aligned north/south with large external rubble chimney and brick stack
at south end. Extended by two bays at north end in C18. Single storey and
attic with dormers. Framing: original part has two rows of rectangular panels
from sill to wall-plate. Also north bay of C18 part has one row of square
panels at eaves level and a queen post truss at the north gable end.
East front elevation: there are three 2-light casements and also a single-
light casement in a former blocked doorway on the ground floor. The C18
part is a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement and also a square stair light
at eaves level. Main entrance at north end enclosed by C20 flat-roofed porch
addition. Attic light at north end. C20 wing added to rear of original part.
Interior: roof of original part has a collar and tie-beam truss with two main
struts and raking struts across the lower corners at its northern end. The
intermediate truss and the purlins have been altered. Large fireplace in south
bay.
