2/109 Stables about 50 yards
Stables. C18 or earlier. Part sandstone rubble, part timber-framed and
weatherboarded with machine-tiled roof. Five bays aligned north/south.
Two levels. Framing: one row of rectangular panels at upper floor level with
long straight braces across the lower corners. Collar and tie-beam truss with
five struts to collar and V-struts in the apex at north gable end. Main east
elevation: window openings have timber lintels. There are four square windows
and a small rectangular window on the ground floor, two loft openings and
a doorway with a ledged and battened door. Second bay from south end has a
large double doorway on west side, suggesting the building was once also used
as barn. Interior: roof has intermediate collar and tie-beam trusses and two
tiers of trenched purlins.
