4/74 Well Cottage

GV II
House. Probably C17 with later alterations. Sandstone rubble plinth
and timber-frame with plaster infill. Tiled roof and sandstone rubble
stacks. Rectangular plan aligned roughly north/south. One and two
storeys with attics. East elevation has 1:1 windows. Gable front to
left has a glazing bar late C20 window to each storey. To right of gable
front is a 2-light casement in a gabled dormer and two glazing bar casements
to ground floor. Right-hand gable stack is enveloped by projecting framed
lower part with entry in its left-hand return. Frame of main part is three
square panels high from cill to wall-plate. Lower part has narrower infill
panels. Interior noted as having heavy ceiling beams. (RCHM, Vol III, p 147).
