SO 4461 KINGSLAND CP -

13/20 Kingsland House
(formerly listed
11.6.59 as Rectory)

GV II*

House. Early C18, with some late C20 restoration. Brick with ashlar
dressings and hipped slate roof. Square plan with integral chimney stacks
on north and south walls. Entrance (east) front is of two storeys with
attic lit by three gabled dormers. Rusticated quoins of ashlar, with a
moulded and dentilled wooden cornice and ashlar band to ground floor. Five
bays, central one slightly advanced, each bay having a boxed glazing bar
sash under rubbed brick heads with keystones. Ground floor similar but
without keystones. The central entrance has a moulded wooden architrave
below a restored shell canopy. Left-hand return (south) front has a
semi-circular bay window, probably a C19 addition. West front similar
to east save that two windows to right are blind. Interior has a fine
staircase with turned balusters and square panelled newels. (RCHM, 3, p 83,
