13/42 The Brick House

GV II

House. Late C16 to early C17, refronted early C18, with some mid-C19 and
mid-C20 alterations. Timber-frame with painted brick and rendered infill
on a rubble plinth, partially clad in roughcast brick, with tile and slate
roof. L-plan, main C17 range to north, short C18 range to east. Lateral
stack on west wall of rubble with brick shaft. South front of two storeys
with a band to ground floor, concrete coped verge to gable on left, dentilled
brick cornice to right. A 3-light casement to left. Ground floor has two 2-
light casements. Entrance to left of centre has a gabled tiled canopy, a
moulded wooden architrave and half-glazed door. Right-hand return wall has
a canted bay window. Framing visible in left-hand wall is four square panels
high, raised by a further panel in C18. The building was originally jettied
to the street. Interior has some exposed chamfered and stopped ceiling beams.
