DOWNTON CP
Castle Bridge (that part in Downton CP)

Accommodation bridge over the River Teme. Late C18. Sandstone ashlar
with horizontal tooling. Three elliptical arches, the central one of which
is larger than the flanking arches, and all have hoodmoulds. Plain parapet,
above corbel table over arches, splayed at ends and terminating in rectangular
piers with flat capping. The bridge is about five yards wide and 55 yards long.
The original main southern approach to Downton Castle (qv) crossed the River
Teme at Castle Bridge. It was probably also designed by Richard Payne Knight
together with Forge Bridge (qv) downstream and possibly Burrington Bridge (qv)
