4/25 The White House

GV II

House. C17 core, extensively remodelled during late C18 and early C19;
further C20 alterations and additions. Timber-framed core with sandstone
rubble plinth, sandstone rubble and brick refacing. Completely rendered
to entrance front. Tiled roofs. Range of three bays aligned north-east/
south-west with cross-wing at north-east end and extended to south-east
front during the late 1970's. Two lateral stacks and one axial Cl9 stack.
Two storeys. South-east front: two 12-pane glazing bar sash windows to
first floor, multi-paned window to left of half-glazed doorway and 16-pane
glazing bar sash window to left of part-glazed door to ground floor; bow
fronted C20 extension extends to right. Square-panelled timber-framing
of cross-wing is revealed to rear. The interior retains chamfered ceiling
beams in the cross-wing; a large, now partially blocked fireplace with a
chamfered surround survives in the main range. Included for group value
with The Farmhouse (qv).
