10/57 Fig Tree House and
Grosmont House

GV II

House, sub-divided into two. C14 or C15 core with C16 cross-wing at west
end, C20 alterations and additions. Timber-framed with sandstone rubble
plinth, painted brick infill and major C20 brick refacing and additions;
Welsh slate roof. Former hall range aligned east/west, now with gable to
south front; cross-wing to west end and later additions to east end and to
rear. Lateral stacks. Entrance to Grosmont House to right in C20 additions,
entrance to cross-wing now called Fig Tree House to right return. Two storeys;
gable end of cross-wing to left with jettied upper storey had pendant to right-
hand side; 3-light casement window. C20 brick gable to right with 12-pane
glazing bar sash window and part-glazed door to left; 3-light C20 window to
right. The central truss of the former hall is said to retain open arched
bracing with cusped members. (RCHM, Vol III, p 165, item 15).
