Farmhouse. Probably late C16 to C17 with later alterations. Timber-
frame with brick infill and roughcast finish. Corrugated iron, Welsh
and asbestos slate roofs. Rectangular east/west plan with cross-wing at
west end. Two storeys. North elevation has 4:0 windows, 2-light early
C20 casements with corrugated iron cladding to unfenestrated gable front
to right. Ground floor has three casements, each of three lights. Glazed
door under lean-to to left of right-hand window. To right of the last
window are tallet stairs rising to ledged first floor door. To the right
of the door is a small 12-pane window beneath which is a small 2-light case-
ment. Small area of exposed framing to right-hand side; the rest of the
main range is roughcast. Gable has wide corrugated iron doors and weather-
boarded lean-to attached to right-hand return. Interior (access refused).
RCHM refers to Upper Ailey Farmhouse as Ailey Farm. (RCHM, Vol III, p 100).
