Description

LETTON CP WATERLOO LANE
SO 34 NW
3/82 Waterloo Cottages

GV II
Pair of cottages. Probably late C18 with later alterations. Timber-frame
with brick and woven infill, partly roughcast. Asbestos slate roof and
central brick ridge stack. Four bays aligned east-north-east/south-south
west. Two storeys. South elevation has 2:2 windows. Left cottage is rough-
cast. Square mid-C20 light to left-hand side and to its right a contemporary
top vent window. The ground floor has a top vent casement and a 2-light case-
ment. Ledged early C19 door. Right cottage has mid-C20 casement of two lights
to left of 4-pane window. Ground floor two casements, each of two lights.
Early C19 ledged door. Frame exposed on right cottage is four square panels
high from cill to wall-plate. Interior has flagged stone floors, ceiling beams
with run-out chamfer stops and trusses with three posts above ties supporting
collars. This building would appear to be of an earlier framed construction
than its name "Waterloo Cottages" would suggest, therefore pre-1815.
