House. Probably late C16 and C17 with later alterations. Timber-frame with
brick and plaster infill. Pantile and Welsh slate roof with external sand-
stone rubble and brick stacks. L-plan with main two-bay range aligned north-
west/south-east and one-bay cross-wing at south-east end. Further range
attached to south-east with another cross-wing at south-east end. One storey
and attic. North-east elevation has 1:2 windows, 2-light mid-C20 casements,
the two windows to centre and right in timber-framed dormers. Gable front to
left has lozenge patterns in gable formed from scissor struts, moulded bressummer
supported on two curved brackets, a 3-light mid-C20 ground floor casement with
contemporary glazed late C20 door to right. Main range has 2-light casement to
left of centre, extruded sandstone side stack with brick shaft to right and
central late C20 lean-to porch finished in roughcast with glazed door. Weather-
boarded lean-to on right-hand return. To left of gable front is single-storey
timber-framed range with a 3-light casement and two garage doors running into
another framed cross-wing which is partly rebuilt to rear in brick rubble and
breeze block. Frame of main range is three panels high form cill to wall-plate;
that of cross-wing four panels. Interior not inspected. South-east part was
formerly a smithy. (RCHM, Vol III, p 187).
