7/52 Moor Abbey
Farmhouse. Late C16 and early C17, altered during C18 and further during
the mid-C19, minor C20 alterations. Timber-framed core completely encased
in sandstone rubble, part hipped tiled roofs. Irregular L-shaped plan with
main entrance to north-east, end stacks. Two storeys and attics. North-east
front: wing projects forward to left with gabled dormer having 4-light case-
ment window, one tripartite glazing bar sash window and one 3-light window
to first floor, similar tripartite window to left of entrance with segmental
head and inner square-headed doorway with six-panelled door; second wing set
back slightly to right has one gabled dormer window with a 4-light casement,
one 3-light casement window to first floor and one 4-light mullioned window
with leaded panes to ground floor. The stack to the rear has decorative
shafts. Interior contains chamfered ceiling beams and large open fireplace
with chamfered jambs and lintel. The house was formerly in the possession
of Leominster Priory and is within a moated site. (RCHM, Vol 3, p 148).
