House and former smithy. C14, altered probably C17, mid-C19 and mid-C20.
Timber-framed with painted brick infill and replacement walling, stone-tiled
roof laid in diminishing courses and some machine tiles, half-hipped at south
end and with brick ridge stack. Cruck hall house of three framed bays aligned
north/south with inserted chimney at junction of northern and central bays.
Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: cruck truss exposed at south
end. Two and three panels from sill to wall-plate. East front elevation:
there is a 2-light C19 casement with a cambered brick head and a small
rectangular window on the ground floor. Above there is a raking-top dormer
and a gabled dormer, both with 2-light casements. Main entrance in north bay
has a gabled canopy on shaped brackets and a half-glazed C19 door. A large
single-storey C20 wing adjoins the southern end of the front elevation and
there is also a large C20 rear wing. Interior: cruck truss between central
and north bay recorded to have a chamfered arch-braced collar. One other cruck
