House, now public house. C17 with C18, mid- to late C19 and mid-C20
alterations and additions. Timber-framed with painted brick infill on rubble
base, painted brick and rubble replacement walling and additions, and machine-
tiled roof with rebuilt rubble stack to front of ridge and rear brick stack.
Three framed bays aligned north/south, the southernmost bay being a probable
C18 addition. Two storeys. Framing: three and four panels from sill to
wall-plate, collar and tie-beam truss with three struts and V-strut above
collar at south end. East front elevation: there is a rectangular light, two
12-pane single-hung sashes, and a C20 rubble lean-to bay window with a 4-light
casement on the ground floor and three 2-light casements and a 3-light casement
on the first floor. Central entrance has a C20 gabled timber-framed porch and
a 6-panelled door within. There is a C19 cross-wing at the north end. Two
storeys with cogged eaves cornice. East gable end has a multi-paned sash on the
ground floor, a 16-pane sash on the first floor and a half-glazed C19 door.
Also lean-to outshut at south end with a 12-pane single-hung sash in its east
elevation. The building is prominently situated at the north end of the village
and adjoins Cartref, Whitney Road (south side)(qv). Included for group value.
