Barn and stable about
20 yards south of
Lower Welson Farmhouse

GV II

Barn and stable. Probably C17. Timber-framed and weatherboarded on rubble
base. Stone-tiled roof laid in diminishing courses and machine-tiled roof.
L-plan; barn of four framed bays aligned north/south, wagon bay with opposed
cart entries and double doors situated in third bay from north end. North
bay of barn, is open for cart access. Stable range of five or six bays adjoins
east side of southernmost bay and has five doors in its north elevation.
Interior: barn has collar and tie-beam end trusses with studs, some intermediate
tie-beam trusses with raking struts and two tiers of trenched purlins. Wall-
framing not visible. Interior of stable not inspected. The barn and stable
form a prominent feature to the south of Lower Welson farmhouse (qv). Included
for group value.
