Farmhouse, now house. C16, altered and part rebuilt C17, with further
mid- to late C19 and late C20 alterations. Timber-framed with rendered
infill, part refaced in brick and rubble with slate roofs and brick
stacks. H-plan; main range of three framed bays with external rubble
chimney on south side. The west cross-wing is also of three framed bays
and probably rebuilt; the east cross-wing is original and of three or
four framed bays. Two storeys and attic. Framing: main part and west wing
refaced in rubble at ground floor level and have three rows of square or
rectangular panels at first floor level. East wing has collar and tie-beam
trusses with two collars and struts at gable ends. East wing has painted
brick and rubble refacing at ground floor level, two rows of close-set
studding at first floor level and similar roof trusses; the south truss
has only one collar and a swept V-strut above it. The framing at the
north end and the truss above have decorative herringbone struts. North
front elevation: windows are all C19 casements. Main range has a ground
floor 3-light window with a plank weathering, three first floor cross-
casements and a restored lean-to timber-framed porch in the east angle with
a renewed shaped doorhead. Within the porch the main entrance has retained
its moulded architrave and nail-studded door with moulded fillets and strap
hinges. East cross-wing gable end has a 3-light window on both main floors
and an attic light with a plank weathering, West cross-wing gable end has
a ground floor 3-light window, a first floor cross-casement and an attic
light; all have plank weatherings. There is a cross-casement on the first
floor in the angle with the main range and a blocked ground floor window.
The east side elevation has a continuous lean-to outshut with a catslide
roof and which has a C20 casement at its north end. Interior is recorded
to have an early C17 staircase. (RCHM, III, p 213, item 3; BoE, p 323).
