House. Dated 1704 with possible C17 or earlier origins. Altered mid-C19 and
late C20. Brick faced with sandstone rubble to north-east with plain tiled
roofs and large brick stack at centre of main ridge. H-plan; central single-
bay range occupied by large chimney originally forming a lobby entrance and
having intersecting two-bay cross-wings. Two storeys and attic. North-east
front elevation: gable ends have moulded bargeboards with pendant finials.
Central bay has a first floor 2-light casement and a C19 gabled porch with a
Tudor archway and, within, a half-glazed door. Above the porch is a reset
stone inscribed "P M 1704". The flanking gable ends have a 2-light casement
on all three storeys, the gable end to right having an additional single-light
window on the ground floor. There is a single-storey wing adjoining the south-
east side. Interior: a ground floor passageway has been knocked through the
base of the central chimney. The early C18 oak open well staircase survives
to the rear of the central chimney and has turned balusters and a moulded
handrail. (VCH, IV, p 317).
