Stables and adjoining shelter shed. C16, restored mid- to late C20.
Timber-framed with rendered infill on rubble base, weatherboarded on ground
floor level with plain tiled roof. Four framed bays aligned north-west/south-
east. Two levels. Framing: two rows of square panels to each level with
short straight upper corner braces. Upper level is jettied on all sides
(except to the north-east) on shaped brackets. Collar and tie-beam end
trusses with five struts below the collar and a V-strut above. The eaves pro-
ject on shaped brackets at the gable ends. Main south-west elevation: there
are four wood barred windows on the ground floor level with two ledged and
battened doors and two stable doors adjacent to them. On the upper floor
level is one window and three loft doors. There is a loft door at the north-
west end and a loft opening to the south-east end. Interior: roof has three
interrupted arch-braced tie-beam trusses with V-struts above the collar and
two tiers of trenched purlins. Each truss has been stabilised by the addition
of a full tie-beam bolted to the original frame. Shelter shed adjoins north-
west end. C19. Rubble and timber with corrugated iron cladding and plain
tiled roof. Four bays. Open on south-west side with roof supported on timber
posts. Interior: roof has four king-post trusses (three intermediate,trusses
and one at north-west end). (BoE, p 265).
