8/75 The Old Rectory

GV II

Rectory, now house. Early C19. Mainly stuccoed brick and shallow-pitched
partly hipped slate roofs with grouped stuccoed ridge stacks. Two storeys
with chamfered plinth, moulded sill string at first floor level and modillion
eaves cornice. Elevation to Church Street: three bays; the outer bays break
forward and have large ground floor and smaller first floor 12-paned sashes
with moulded eared architraves. The central bay has a tripartite ground floor
window with a moulded cornice and pilasters flanking a central 12-pane sash
and outer 4-pane sashes. There is a smaller version of this window on the
first floor. Entrance elevation on south side also of three bays and has
12-pane sashes with moulded eared architraves on both storeys (smaller on
first floor) and a large central tetrastyle Ionic portico. Within the portico
is a six-panelled door and a transom light and side lights decorated with a
painted scene and hop bouquets.
