3/98 Lower Kyrewood and
adjoining cider mill
and hop kilns
Farmhouse and adjoining cider mill and hop kilns. C17, altered early and
late C19. Part timber-framed with painted brick infill and replacement
walling, part brick, stuccoed at north-west end with plain tiled roof and
brick ridge stack. Probably three framed bays aligned north-west/south-east.
Two storeys; scalloped bargeboards at north-west end. Framing: four panels
from sill to wall-plate. No trusses visible. South-west front elevation:
windows are all C19 casements. There is a 4-light and a 3-light ground floor
window and a 3-light and a 2-light first floor window. Central entrance has
a large half-glazed gabled porch on a brick base and there is a half-glazed
door within. Interior: said to be a large fireplace with a bread oven.
Cider mill adjoins south-east end continuing main roofline and having a rear
wing. Two levels. Single bay. South-west elevation has a ground floor open-
ing with a cambered head and a first floor level window. Cider mill and press
do not survive. Hop kilns adjoin cider mill to north-east. Brick with steeply
pitched hipped slate roof. (No cowls survive). Two attached square kilns
forming rectangular plan. There are two doors with transom lights and a
first floor opening in the south-west elevation. There are two buildings in
Tenbury CP adjacent to each other called Lower Kyrewood, item 3/98 is at Map
