House. First quarter of C18. Red brick with black brick headers in quoins
and dressings, hipped red tile roof with central well, 2 sets of chimneys.
Rectangular plan, 2 storeys, band over ground floor, dentilled eaves cornice;
6 x 4 bays, segmental heads, C19 cross casements, over first floor blank,
so also 4 in north return. Central entrance with bracketed flat hood and
panelled door, band over is raised to form semi-circular arch. Interior:
central hall with 3 bolection architrave doorways; open well staircase,
wide flat oak hand rails, heavy square newels, turned pine balusters. Ground
floor front right hand room over cellar has re-used Jacobean panelling and
C18 display cupboard behind which is a supposed priest-hole. Ground floor
left hand room has polished local marble fireplace with out edge moulding and
keystone (RCHM).
