House. Circa 1785 for Henry Lambert. Brick, diminishing course hipped
slate roof. 2 storeys on basement, dentilled eaves cornice, 2:1:3 bays,
glazing bar sashes to first floor, plate glass to ground floor, exposed
boxes; entrance in slight pedimented break, lunette in gable, stone band
below, Venetian window on first floor with stone dressings, stepped key-
stone and bracketed cills, tripartite 1820s porch on ground floor
repeating the proportions, half glazed doors; C20 porthole window immediately
left of porch. Roughly 'L' plan with mid-C19 infill to form rectangular
plan, later lower extensions to north east and a 1920s angled loggia at
junction. Interior: the principal room is on ground floor to right in Adam
style (wall and ceiling panels, fretted door heads), staircase probably mid-C19,
mahogany hand rail and square shaped balusters. Timber-framing of very thin
scantling to rear of C19 part visible from window of inner wall; shutters
and doors have square fielded panels. On landing and first floor corridors,
heavily moulded elliptical arch doorways. Dining-room (ground floor left hand
side) 1920s in Adam style incorporating a late C18 marble fireplace. Adam
style decoration in hall.
