side of Moat Farmhouse

Stables. Probably C18. Timber-frame on storey-high rubble base, tiled
roof. One and a half storeys with attic dormers. 3 bays, 3 roughly
evenly spaced ledged stable doors and remains of 2 pitch-holes above,
3 C20 gabled dormers, one to each bay. One storey tiled lean-to extension,
probably early C19 to front of right bay. External frame is of regular
panels 2 high from rubble base to wall-plate level. Regular tension braces
to front at bay intervals; interrupted tie-beam trusses alternate with square
panelled partition trusses similar to,those of gable end but without infill:
both types of truss have small posts supporting ridge piece from very high
collars near the apeces of the principal rafters. The stables form a close
group with the adjoining Moat Farmhouse (qv) and are linked by the great
mass of the latter's external chimney.
