15-OCT-84 Colkett's Farmhouse
Farmhouse. C16 with C19 and mid-C20 alterations and additions. Timber-
framed, painted brick and wattle-and-daub infill, some brick replacement
walling, some weatherboarding to rear, tiled roof, external coursed sand-
stone rubble chimney with tiled offsets and rebuilt brick stack at right
side elevation; and also brick stack to left of main ridge. Hall and inter-
secting cross-wing; hall of 2 framed bays on north-west/south-east axis
with cross-wing at south-east gable end and also of 2 framed bays. Two
storeys. Framing: irregular panels; 4 from sill to wall-plate in hall
range, 3 large square panels from sill to wall-plate in cross-wing; cross-
wing has short, straight braces in upper corners and also long straight
braces in side elevation; queen strut trusses in gable ends. Front elevation:
irregular fenestration; hall range has a ground floor casement and rectangular
light, paired first floor casements and a C20 gabled, timber-framed porch at
left end with a C20 timber door. Cross-wing gable end has a ground and first
floor casement. Interior not inspected. A C19 single storey, 2 bay extension
adjoins left side elevation. The farmhouse stands upon a moated site which
has now been filled in.
