Former school, now converted to dwelling. Dated 1743. English bond brick
on sandstone plinth, tiled roof. Modified U-plan. 1 storey and attic with
basement at rear. Central door flanked by 3-light windows all with segmental
heads and all now C20; cogged eaves cornice; 3 hipped C20 dormers; raised verges;
brick chimney at north gable restored in C20. Tablet with oval inscription panel
above doorway reads, "Mrs Mercy Pope/ some time relict/ of Higgons James/ of this
Parish Esqr/ and afterward wife/ to Bromwich Pope Esqr/ was ye charitable/ FOUNDER/
of this School/ MDCCXLII". C19 wash-house complex under hipped roof complete
with pump to rear.
