3/56 Dunley Hall



House. Late C16 core, refronted and altered in mid-C19; late C18 added
lower wing. Timber-framed core, sandstone bases to stacks, red brick
shafts. Plastered brick refronting, painted brick added wing, tiled
roofs. Formerly central hall with through-passage and projecting cross-
wings, later wing added to lower end; one end stack now enclosed and one
central stack. Two storeys with attics throughout; to rear of entrance
elevation is main garden facade; gable end of added C18 wing to left
adjoins main block; 1:1:3:1 windows, gables and central dormer have painted
C19 scalloped bargeboards; C19 fenestration throughout with glazing bar
sashes on first floor and attics, 3 French casements on ground floor.
Ground floor of central hall block projects level with wings and has lean-
to roof forming porch over door to left. Stacks have 3 conjoined star-plan
shafts. Interior reveals incomplete framing of earlier core possibly close-
studding to ground floor, inserted cross-beam ceiling and late C17 roof
structure. Upper end has large altered fireplaces.
