5/2 Barn about 70 yards east
of Aylton Court

GV II

Barn. Probably late C17 - early C18. Rubble plinth supporting timber-framing
three panels high to wall-plate with brick infill, weatherboarded west gable
and slate roof. Six bays aligned roughly east/west. North elevation has
opposed segmentally-headed full-height ledged doors to two threshing floors
each one bay in from the end bays and diamond ventilator patterns in the
brick infill. Interior: trusses to threshing floors have collars and angle
struts to principals; east gable truss has queen struts from tie to collar
together with-angle struts from tie to principals. Forms a major feature
in the farmyard to Aylton Court (qv) together with barn (qv) and attached cow
house (qv) about 40 yards to the north. (RCHM, Vol II, p 9).
