4/216 Alder's End Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Probably late C17, remodelled in late C18. Brick with stone
dressings, hipped slate roofs and brick stacks, the two principal ones
to centre have recessed panels. Staggered rectangular plan. Cellar and
three storeys. 1:1 windows, late C18 to early C19 casements of three
lights, segmentally-headed to ground and first floors, stone quoins, entry
to left of centre in glazed C20 lean-to porch. Interior: late C17 seven-
flight open-well dog-leg staircase with squat turned balusters, moulded
strings and square newels with pendants. (RCHM Vol II, p 185).
