7/234 Alford's Mill

GV II

Mill. Possibly C18 with early and mid-C19 alterations. Left part is
dwelling with timber-frame cased in brick and sandstone rubble, slate
roof and central brick ridge stack; right part, formerly having mill
apparatus, has coursed sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings and a
higher slate roof. Rectangular plan aligned north-west/south-east. Two
storeys. South elevation: has 2:1 windows, C20 casements in segmental
brick arches and 2-light early C19 casements under stone lintols; two
entries, one in gabled porch to right side of dwelling, the other in left
hand side of mill. Water wheel, formerly overshot, now inoperative in
situ on right end.
