Dodd's Mill

Mill, now house. Probably C17, refaced with additions in 1788, altered C20.
Timber-framed with C20 infill, sandstone rubble refacing and later additions,
tiled roof, brick stacks. Two framed bays aligned east/west facing south with
stone and further C20 addition to east, entrance in south front in later
addition, gable end stacks and further central axial stack. Single storey
and attic, three C20 gabled dormers with 3-light glazing bar casements,
similar 3-light windows flank smaller window to framed section, further 3-light
window to right of gabled porch with C20 ledged door. Framing fairly complete,
three panels from sill to wall-plate. Date inscribed in stone set in wall now
partly defaced, recorded by Royal Commission as 1788 in 1932 (RCHM Vol II,
p 22).
