Description

ELDERSFIELD CP -
SO 83 SW
7/70 Nashend Farmhouse and
outbuilding adjoining
it to west
- II

House and outbuilding. Probably early C17 or earlier, altered C19. Timber-
framing and brick with tile roof. House of two storeys and three bays, with
brick front and C20 metal casement windows. Door between second and third
bays under hipped tiled porch. Projecting chimney stack on right-hand gable.
Left-hand gable wall partly covered by lower outbuilding which has its front
wall set back from the main facade. The gable wall has an exposed cruck truss
with the lower part of the front blade truncated. The lower part of the rear
blade is exposed in the outbuilding. The rear wall of the house has exposed
framing in three rows of square panels, with a fourth row added to heighten
the eaves. The two lower rows of panels continue across the rear wall of the
outbuilding, which has had a third row removed. This suggests that the cruck
truss was once internal and that the outbuilding is on the site of a partly-
demolished bay of the house. Interior: no other cruck trusses visible.
