House, probably late medieval with C16 and C17 alterations and additions and
late Cl9 front wing. Red brick, partly timber-framed in rear wing, with plain-
tile roof and brick end and rear lateral stacks. 2 storeys. Late C19 3-window
front range has plinth and 3 gables facing, that to centre lower and set back,
and that to right further back. 2 light casements with top-lights that to centre
projecting on brick corbels with small pentice roof. Large central wooden glazed
porch with part-glazed door carved barge boards and gabled plain-tile roof.
4 light window to left and two 2-light windows to right. Cambered brick heads
with brick keir stacks. In centre, on roof towards rear of this wing, a square
wooden glazed lantern with plain-tile pyramidal roof and weathervane. The earlier
rear wing has hipped roof to right side with 2 early Cl9 3 light casements to
first floor and further 2- and 3-light casements. Square-panel timber-framing
is partly visible to rear where also a large brick lateral stack and lean-to.
Interior of rear wing has closed cruck truss, partly cut away, and a 3 x 3-bay
cross-beam floor, probably inserted C16. Further timber-framing with massive
braces is partly visible in North East gable wall, now internal. Forms a group
with outbuildings and hop kiln approximately 1O metres north-west. (q.v.)
