Description

RUSHWICK UPPER WICK
SO 85 SW
3/131 Wick Episcopi
12.11.51
- II
House. Late C17, altered in early C19. Painted brick with slate roof. Two
storeys with attic, six bays. Above the fourth bay is a gable with attic window.
Doorway in fourth bay with stone Tuscan porch. To the left of the porch is
a straight joint. Chimney towards right behind ridge. The present roof with
overhanging eaves is a mid-C20 replacement: previously the roof was behind a
parapet. Interior: the left-hand front room has some Adamesque decoration:
a frieze, a fireplace, two round-headed niches, and a border to the ceiling.
The open-string stair has three slim turned balusters to each tread, and a ramped
handrail. The balusters form a spiral where they follow the curtail of the
lower step.
