Brewery maltings. Circa 1870-80. Buff brick with some black brick dressings,
especially to window lintels and to arches of arched panels as well as impost
band to those arches. Moulded eaves cornice to plain tiled roof,raised to form
gable at left end of Henry Street front, with square louvred cowl on hip to
rear of this gable, presumably over kiln. Similar cowl over hip at end of
Station Street front; various louvred openings on roofs as outlets for drying
floors. 4 storeys with attic in gable to left of Henry Street front. 17 bay
facade with 3-storey round-arched recessed brick panelsraised over single-storey
rendered basement. All openings of uniform size, except doors, with black brick
dressed segmental heads and rubbed black brick cills. Doorways on first floor ..
of 4th, 9th and 14th bays, with boarded doors except in 4th bay, which is blank.
All openings in five lefthand bays blank, except gable-opening, with bars to
boarded and glazed door, as in all other openings. This building was formerly
the maltings for the Alton Court Brewery.
