Description

SO 24 NE CLIFFORD CP

2/31 Beavan memorial about 42
metres north of north porch
of Church of St Mary

GV II

Pedestal tomb. Early C19. Greek Revival style. Square plan cuboid, each side
carved in low relief with Greek sarcophagus bearing inscription, surmounted by
classical urn half covered in drapery; fluted frieze with paterae; concave
capping with cross gabled finial. South inscription: "Sacred to the Memory of/
Eliza Daughter of/ Thomas and Priscilla Beavan/ of Wood-Eaves in the parish/
of Eardisley in this county/ who departed this Life/ XXIX November MDCCCXII/
Aged V years and VI months". Also inscriptions on other faces. This is a
good example of stone masonry and enhances the setting of the church; it
contributes to the group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
