House. Late C16; rear wing aligned north/south with C19 addition at
north-east end forming L; mid-C17 main house adjoins to south facing south,
altered C20. Squared sandstone rubble to ground floor with ashlar above
to main house, coursed rubble, slate roofs, hipped to main house, brick
shafts and two C19 brick stacks to rear wing. Single depth main house with
central entry (now blocked), end stacks, L-plan rear wing with central
axial stack, through-passage, also later C19 stacks to north-east gable
and to north of west lateral wall. Main house: two storeys', attic and
basement, plinth and two moulded string courses, wide eaves with paired
plain brackets, three windows, 3-light and 2-light cross casements, two
dormers with C20 glazing bar casements, 2-light window replaces central
doorway, pair of diagonal shafts to each stack. Rear wing: single storey
with attic, segmental head to doorway to north of west side and second
doorway to south of same side with square headed hoodmould, two blocked
square headed windows above. Interior: main house: altered with ornamental
plastered ceiling and panel above fireplace in west room mentioned by RCHM
no longer extant. Rear wing: open fireplace and internal close-studded
timber-framed walls, fine chamfered beams; roof trusses: two queen struts
to collar. (RCHM, Vol I, p 80).
