Parish church. C13 core, mid- to late C14 west tower with spire, north
aisle, south porch and chancel, altered and restored late C19 with addition
of south organ chamber. Sandstone rubble, ashlar to west tower, south porch
and organ chamber, slate roofs. West tower: externally of one, internally
of four stages with doorway to north and window now forming second doorway
with late C19 steps up to first floor in west wall, octagonal broach spire
with four lucarnes; two cusped ogee-lights with quatrefoil, restored tip to
spire. Nave and chancel: one C19 2-light window with cusped ogee-lights and
quatrefoil and further similar,window flanking porch, small lower blocked
square-headed window slihglty to west of organ chamber with similar C19 2-
light window. North wall of north aisle has two blocked pointed arched
windows and doorway between inserted C19 2-light windows, late C15 five
cusped ogee-light window in 4-centred arch at east end of chancel. South porch:
outer entrance of two moulded orders, smaller doorway in east wall with
chamfered jambs, C19 inner doorway, two cusped ogee-light window to east wall
and two ogee-headed lights in west wall now blocked internally. Interior:
two eastern bays of north nave arcade with drum piers moulded bases and
capitals and altered arches, remaining two bays of nave to west and two bays
of chancel with octagonal piers moulded bases and capitals and arches of
two orders, walls fitted with imported linenfold panelling, some panels
reputed to be of c1700 from Hill Court (qv under Walford CP - [not in this
list]). Damaged late C13 tomb with arcaded sides under eastern arch of
north arcade. Pieces of C15 glass incorporated in east window of north
aisle, east chancel window by Hardman c1875. (BoE, p 136/7; RCHM p 73).
