Former parish church, now partly roofless. C12 north wall to nave, remainder
C13 with chancel and former north vestry restored C20. Nave formerly with
south porch, chancel and north vestry now porch. Nave: roofless, with two
window openings to eastern end of north wall; C12 single round-headed light
to west and C13 trefoiled light to east. Two similar C13 single-light windows
flank segmental-pointed-headed doorway to south. Chancel: south side contains
large traceried window mutilated at head and sill, late C14, four lights,
cinquefoil ogee heads above traceried transom with trefoiled lights below.
This is an interesting window, presumably important and relates to a restored window of this type at Pembridge Castle (cf under Welsh Newton CP). Two
cusped lights and central circle in plate tracery above to east window.
Interior: chancel - C20 roof. Fittings: C17 pulpit, 4-panelled sides with
primitive incised decoration. Plain floor slabs dating from late C17 and
early C18. Brass chandelier, part C15 and part C19 donated by Ivor Bulmer
Thomas. This church is shortly to be vested in the Redundant Churches Fund.
An unpretentious country church overlooked by the Victorians, it retains much
of its pre-Reformation character, including large areas of thin protective
rendering.
