SO 51 NE WELSH BICKNOR CP COURTFIELD

6/165 Chapel of St Mary

GV II


Chapel adjoining Courtfield (qv). c1870. Sandstone rubble, ashlar
dressings, slate roof. Rectangular plan; three bays with south link
adjoining to north of house, west doorway. Early English style. Three
pairs of trefoil-headed lights to north side, curved-sided triangular
window with three quatrefoiled roundels to west gable end and two similar
trefoil-headed lights below. Stepped diagonal buttresses, east bellcote.
Fine early C20 stained glass by Heston, Butler and Bayne, London. Crypt
contains memorials to Vaughan family, earlier ones removed from St
Margarets (qv)
