4/94 The Cresswells (formerly
listed as Crosswell
Cottage. ProbablyC17. Timber-frame, plaster infill panels, thatched roof
and large external stack to front gable. L-plan with main front facing
south. One storey and attic. South elevation: gable to left, 1:2 bays;
the gable is masked by the external stack and a lean-to; a C19 stack partly
masks the centre bay in which is a 3-light mid-C20 casement on the ground
floor. Above in an eyebrow dormer is a 3-light mid-C19 casement; the
gable has an early C20 2-light casement. Ledged early C20 door to gable;
a late C20 ledged door leads into the right hand bay. Along the rear side
is a thatched timber-framed lean-to, possibly C18. Interior: beam in
principal room has run-out chamfer stops. The right bay contains a cider
press and mill on the ground floor with a tallet above. The rear lean-to
seems to allow the principal room in the centre bay to be by-passed in
journeying from the cross-wing to the cider house.
