5/23 The Cedars

GV II

House, sub-divided into tenements. C17 core, extensively altered during
late C19 and C20. Timber-framed core on sandstone plinth with painted
brick infill; main front re-faced with brick and part rendered; hipped
tiled roof. L-plan with east gable-end stack and west of centre axial
stack. Entrances to east of main front, to west gable end and to west
of rear wing. Two storeys; main front with three first floor 3-light
casement windows to left and two C20 windows in rendered section to right;
ground floor with French casement and 3-light window to left and similar
window to right of ledged door. C20 bow window and 7-light C20 window
in projecting to rendered section to right. Timber-framing is revealed
to rear and though disfigured was probably square panelled framing.
Interior is reputed to retain plastered ceilings. (RCHM Vol II, p 44,
item 12).
